First Community Church August Newsletter

Below is the content of the article about Dominica's visit to Columbus that was published in FCC's August newsletter:

Events Set for Dominica’s Visit on Sept 21-24

After months of planning, the schedule for Dominica Rosario’s first visit to First Community Church is set. She is looking forward to meeting those who support the Dominica School and Orphanage (DSO). “Your organization has kept us going for the last three years. Without you, we would have sent hundreds of kids away, without proper schooling and without decent food. Now I get to meet the people who have been so generous to us.”

Dominica will be bringing two graduates of the Dominica School and Orphanage with her. One is her daughter, Athenas, who is in her third year of veterinary school. The other is Yeritza Parra, who is in her third year of medical school. Both Athenas and Yeritza return regularly to help teach at the school.

Saturday, September 22

  • Brunch with the church staff and the board members of both FCC and the Foundation.

  • 5-7 PM - Dominica Celebration! All church members are invited to a family-friendly Dominican Republic-themed party at North Campus. Food trucks will be on site to provide several options for dinner. Activities will include salsa and merengue dancing lessons, games, a performance by the FCC children’s choir, and a performance by Athenas and Yeritza.

Sunday, September 23

  • Church Services - Dominica will be speaking from the pulpit at all church services on Sunday, telling the story of the DSO.

  • Reception with donors to the Dominica School and Orphanage Support Fund.

  • Crossroads - Dominica, Athenas, and Yeritza will address the FCC youth at the Crossroads meeting Sunday evening. This session will be attended by past high school seniors who have made the fall trip to the DSO.

This trip is being funded by a church member who supports the DSO.  If you have any questions concerning the weekend’s events, please contact laurenthawley@gmail.com
